Importing Contacts Using CSV

Step 1: How do I upload a CSV file?

On the Upload step:

  1. Drag and drop your CSV file into the upload area or

  2. Click to browse and select a file from your system

  3. Click Analyze & Continue

Once uploaded, Samwad:

  • Detects the number of rows

  • Validates the file structure

  • Prepares data for the next step

Until a file is selected, the upload status remains Waiting for upload.


What if I don’t have a CSV file?

If you don’t already have a CSV file:

  1. Click Download sample CSV on the import page

  2. Open the sample file

  3. Enter your contact details following the provided format

  4. Save the file as CSV

  5. Upload the file back into Samwad

Using the sample CSV ensures correct formatting and avoids mapping errors.


Step 2: What happens during Review & Map?

After uploading the CSV, Samwad moves to the Review & Map step.

In this step, you:

  • Review the detected CSV columns

  • Map each column to Samwad contact fields (such as name or phone number)

  • Ensure required fields are correctly mapped

This step ensures that contact data is stored accurately.


Step 3: How do I confirm and import contacts?

Once mapping is complete:

  1. Review the import summary

  2. Confirm the mapping

  3. Click Confirm & Import

Samwad then:

  • Creates contacts in bulk

  • Tags contacts with the source as Imported

  • Evaluates messaging eligibility automatically

Imported contacts appear in the Contact List once the process is complete.


How does Samwad handle errors during import?

If Samwad detects issues such as missing data or incorrect formatting, it highlights them before import. This allows you to fix problems without importing invalid or incomplete contacts.

SAGE provides live guidance throughout the import process. It highlights readiness, suggests corrections, and shows clear next actions, making the import process simple even for first-time users.


What happens after contacts are imported?

After import:

  • Contacts appear in Audience → Contact List

  • Each contact shows the source as Import

  • Messaging eligibility is automatically evaluated

  • Contacts can be grouped, messaged, or used in campaigns

  • Use the sample CSV if unsure about formatting

  • Ensure phone numbers include country codes
